Spring Update

Spring is here and everything is blooming!

These are the Honey Berries. 

Apparently, 

Honey Berries are like blueberries, 

they like to have friend plants nearby.

I only have one plant 

because I ended up not liking the fruit...

Raspberry Short Cake...

These produce the largest best tasting raspberries ever!

I'm definitely adding a couple more bushes to my collection this year.

Gooseberries. Every year these berries come back 

with such vigour! I love it!

Unlike the Peach Sorbet, 

I don't think this one is going produce fruit this year...

Grapes! 

Aren't they just the cutest when the leaves are just blooming.

Lesson Learned...

Sometimes I can be very spontaneous in my gardening. I won't do my research first and thus learn valuable lessons...

This year the lesson I learned was to not transplant fruit trees when they are growing fruit. I did this with Bob the Apple Tree, my Fig Tree, and the Black Raspberry bush...

Bob originally had a lot of blooms that would have turned into apples. I transplanted him because I was too eager and he was only left with 2 apples... Same goes for the Fig Tree and Raspberry bush.

However... The Fig bush has 3 new babies! Originally it had lots of baby figs, but only 1 survived the transplant. I checked on him the other day and he has 3 new blooms :)

Feed Me Grapes Like a Goddess Please...

Ummmm Grapes. Home grown grapes are so sweet. I do find that they have thicker skins though...

I didn't think you could container garden grapes. I planted these last year, and as spring came upon us I didn't think they were going to come back. But alas, they have in full force. 

If grapes weren't poisonous for dogs I'd could see Ror wanting me to feed her bushels as she lay on a hammock on our patio :) She does do her due diligence every day and sniffs these to see if they are ready.

What I learned in my second year is that you shouldn't trim back the branches too much in the first year. Let them grow wild. Then in the second year you can trim it back as they grow. This way you limit the risk that you will be trimming too much and nothing will grow back. 

I'll definitely report back more findings as the season progresses :)
