This Year in the Life of Bob

I know we've all been waiting for this...

It's an update on Bob the Apple Tree!

Bob has one apple this year.
Last year we had three, which was amazing
because it was his first year.

I'm sure the difference has to be because
last year there were tons of apple trees
to pollinate from in the nursery,
but this year there was only his friend tree.

It's all good though :)
I'm excited for this singleton apple baby.
It's ripening faster this year.
I think because our Spring was so warm.

Spring Trees Update

The trees are blooming!
This is the second year of the mini cherry trees.
Ahhh... I'm so excited that they came back :)

One day in the distant future I shall eat the fruit
that this tree will bear... Until then I will enjoy it's leaves.

Bob the Apple Tree is loving his second year of life!
I am loving you too Bob! I am loving you too!

Here's bob's entire story.

Bob's beautiful blooms.
Apple blossoms are just amazing.

Un-named friend tree of Bob...
This friend is coming back too. Crimson Gala, I hope you fruit this year.

Azaleas!

Willow Tree

Japanese Maple :)

Other willow tree.

Want to know a secret? These willow and maple trees used to be my favourite,
but they don't do anything...
no fruit, no flowers...

Other trees in my garden have so much purpose that sometimes I just feel sad
that these trees get to take up room...

I'm contemplating giving them away...

If anyone has any love for them let me know :)

Spring in the Patio Garden

Spring has come a little earlier here in Vancouver. We've had a very mild winter and now the plants have deemed it time to start the spring process.

Here are some lovely pictures from my patio garden...

This is the Silver Lavender that I planted late last year. It's looking mighty fine.
I definitely pruned it just enough...

Always the first to bloom, Bleeding Hearts.
I combined the white and pink ones into a single pot last year.

Tiny buds starting on the Azalea. I can't wait to see its pink blooms.

Blueberries! I was just telling TheDapperGentleman
that soon we will be able to harvest fresh fruit straight from our patio.
This is most definitely the best thing about having your own garden.

Bob the Apple Tree. Looks like he's going strong. Hip Hip Hurrah
for surviving the winter.

These are the new blueberry plants I planted last year.
Peach Sorbet and Jelly Bean variety. Looks like there are
going to be some sweet treats this year.

Nom Nom Nom...

The yummiest apple babies I've ever had ;)

It still surprises me that growing your own food tastes so good.
These apple babies were delicious!
Sweeter than normal apples, and amazing :)

Apple Babies a Retrospective ;)

In honor of the birth of the twins
I thought I'd compile a retrospective of our season together...

The first signs of apple babies.
I remember being so excited to see life growing on Bob.

This is the further away apple baby.
Isn't he gorgeous!
It was tough getting any pictures of him
because he was on the other side of the tree!
There are more blurred pictures than focused ones...
iPads are not great photo taking companions ;)

This apple baby didn't survive...
He was just too misshapen and fell off.

Another fallen apple friend... rest in peace little one.

Apple babies are growing...

and growing...
Look how big he was getting.

This is from the time when one of the apple babies was blushing at me ;)

The time when i used garlic to help with the ants.
Worked like a charm.

A rare picture of the further apple baby.
Look how big!

Bigger blushes from the closer apple baby.
I love you too little one!

And now... All grown up and ready to be picked!

It honestly felt like forever waiting for these guys.
I would look at them every day as I drove into the garage
and as I opened my balcony window.

I did have doubts that something would happen
before I could pick them.

I'm just so happy and excited that they survived until
Harvest Time :)

Best Thing Ever!

p.s. They are the size of regular store apples!
Like the size of non organic apples ;)

p.s.s. To fully appreciate this post, reread it with a dramatic tone.

Exciting News...

I have some very exciting news to share...

At 9:35pm tonight Bob had his apple baby twins!

They are both look plump and delicious.

Here is their birth story:

After months and months of waiting and watching,
I was looking outside my balcony window
and thought that one of the apple babies had fallen...

When I went to take a closer look,
I saw that everyone was fine :)

Upon closer inspection,
I saw that the apples were no longer green.
They were both ready to be picked!

I pick the closest one first.
Little did I know that they wanted
to be born at the same time because
as I picked the closer one, the farther one fell off.

I scooped them both up and
took them inside to bath them in fresh water.
They are both doing splendid
and are sitting on my counter awaiting breakfast time...

p.s. TheDapperGentleman took the lovely newborn picks ;)

Updates...

Bob's apples are growing so big.

Fall is the apple season.
Farmers markets are filled with fresh local harvest...

Bob's second apple baby...

Figs are growing.
Container figs seem to bloom later in the season.
Works out for me :)

This is a second pair of figs higher up on the tree.
I've been extremely lucky this year!

Bob's Apple Baby is Blushing at Me

It's a little hard to see, but Bob's apple baby is blushing at me!

Bob is so outgoing, I never thought that he would create bashful apple babies.
I love you too apple baby, I love you too :)

Happy Friday Everyone

Lesson Learned...

(Look at Bob's Apple Babies grow)

Sometimes I can be very spontaneous in my gardening. I won't do my research first and thus learn valuable lessons...

This year the lesson I learned was to not transplant fruit trees when they are growing fruit. I did this with Bob the Apple Tree, my Fig Tree, and the Black Raspberry bush...

Bob originally had a lot of blooms that would have turned into apples. I transplanted him because I was too eager and he was only left with 2 apples... Same goes for the Fig Tree and Raspberry bush.

However... The Fig bush has 3 new babies! Originally it had lots of baby figs, but only 1 survived the transplant. I checked on him the other day and he has 3 new blooms :)

P.S. the grape vines are doing really well...

Bob's Apple Babies are Growing

Bob's apple babies are growing!

He used to have 3, but now he has 2...

B's Twins are the size of half my palms.

It's exciting being apart of his first apple season!

I was going to say that I feel like a proud grandparent, but that would be odd...
since I plan on eating these apples in a couple of months ;)
